Established in 1996, the AHSRA received a commission from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) to clarify the AHS concept and formulate AHS requirements. Next, AHS developed systems to embody that concept and implemented joint testing along with ASV (advanced safety vehicle). Parallel to these activities, the AHS clarified objectives necessary for ensuring safety and reliability of infrastructure, developed practical systems for their realization, and launched demonstration tests.
Since 2003 we have been conducting research that strives to put into practical use as early as possible our previous findings. In 2004, we began joint research between the government and the private sector into Smartway, a next-generation road services system, as well as working towards the practical use of a new Virtual Infrastructure Integration system. |
