| AHS can be grouped into three phased systems according to the level of service provided to the driver. |
| |
| * |
AHS-i (information) provides information on the driving situation and gives collision warnings.
Major effects to be expected: Enhancement of safety and driving comfort |
| * |
AHS-c (control) assists driving by providing partial control of vehicles, such as lane deviation avoidence, based on the information from the infrastructure and on-vehicle sensors.
Major effects to be expected: Enhancement of safety and driving comfort |
| * |
AHS-a (automated cruise) provides automated cruise service.
Major effects to be expected: Enhancement of safety, efficiency and driving comfort. |
|
We will examine scenarios for the development of AHS-i, AHS-c, and AHS-a. Our aim is to conduct R&D with the goal of putting into practice the basic functions of AHS-i and AHS-c by around the year 2000, and of deploying AHS-a by early in the 21st century.
