Dear Sir/Madam:
We are pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Transport are scheduled to jointly hold "Joint Tests," proving tests for Cruise Assist Systems, starting in October 2000.
The proving tests are designed to examine coordination of the Advanced Safety Vehicle (ASV) developed jointly by 13 Japanese car manufacturers and the Advanced Cruise-Assist highway Systems (AHS) developed by AHSRA (formed by 21 companies in car manufacturing, telecommunications, etc., in Japan).
Besides these tests, AHSRA has decided to solicit participation of organizations both in Japan and other countries in tests utilizing the infrastructure in order to contribute to the development of various Cruise Assist Systems, as well as to confirm and apply the functions and performance of AHS infrastructure through a multilateral approach.
The guidelines for participation are as follows. To obtain further information, please access the AHSRA Website (http://www.ahsra.or.jp/) or request for participation guidelines.
Please note also that the program will be opened to the public in the early part of December 2000, involving test rides, exhibits, etc. Information on "Demo 2000" will be made available as soon as it is finalized.
Yours very sincerely, |
 |

 |
| Organizations interested in conducting vehicle system tests coordinated with AHS infrastructure currently being developed by AHSRA are encouraged to participate in the proving tests in order to confirm and apply the functions and performance with a multilateral approach. |
| |
 |
The infrastructure employed in the proving tests have been designed to provide seven services scheduled to be realized in 2003 and thereafter
Support for prevention of collisions with forward obstacles
Support for prevention of over shooting on curve
Support for prevention of lane departure
Support for prevention of crossing collisions
Support for prevention of right turn collisions
Support for prevention of collisions with pedestrians crossing streets
Support for road surface condition information for maintaining headway etc.
Any type of proving test is accepted, so long as the AHS infrastructure is employed.
It is desired for the Cruise Assist Systems to integrate the road and vehicle in order to improve safety, improve efficiency, protect the environment and reduce the operational work of drivers. The theme of one's tests should relate to the above mentioned seven user services and currently under development by each person or group who desires to participate in the proving tests. |

 |
(1) Application to comply with the objective and the contents of this call for participation..
(2) The System is to have R&D performance record in technologies linked to the proving tests and at the same time capable of supplying equipment, organization, manpower, etc., for conducting the tests. Please refer to the Participation Guidelines for further information. |
