It is essential to decrease accidents and congestion by the beginning of the coming 21st century. In order to achieve this goal, AHS in Japan is being developed to realize a safe, smooth traffic system.

Development of AHS must be guided by the needs of society and individuals. For this purpose, requirements, systematized needs to serve as a guideline for technical research and development, are being studied and determined.
