Invitation to participate in the Joint Tests

From 15 through 19 June 1998, the municipality of Rijnwoude will be the centre of attention with regard to Automated Vehicle Guidance. A demonstration of the latest developments in the field of AVG will be held in this South Holland municipality on part of the National Trunk Road 11, currently under construction.

Background

The municipality of Rijnwoude is located in the province of South Holland, a short distance from the cities Leiden, The Hague and Rotterdam. The municipality lies in the so-called green heart of the Randstad, the name for the "green" region surrounded by the most built-up, urbanised area in the Netherlands. The municipality has approximately 19,500 inhabitants and a surface area of approximately 5,800 hectares.

National Trunk Road 11 is currently under construction in Rijnwoude. Part of this road will be used in June as a test lane for demonstrations of AVG techniques.

In addition to the construction of the N11, Rijnwoude is also closely involved in the construction of the High Speed Line (HSL) through the green heart of South Holland.

Tourism and recreation

Rijnwoude is home to no fewer than eight windmills of different types. There are excellent opportunities for cycling excursions. Via the Old Rhine (Oude Rijn), there are connections with the South Holland area of small lakes for aquatic sports and recreation. There are also fishing locations.
