| In his presentation, Mr. Hofmann will address the general motivation for "Intelligent Systems", he will give an overview and general introduction of advanced control systems including a "road-map" of possible future systems. He will then focus on UDC (Urban Driver Control), giving an overview and addressing aims, related technology and first results. In addition, he will indicate actual barriers for market introduction, and discuss future requirements as well as estimated benefits of intelligent systems. |

| Curriculum Vitae |
Mr. Hofmann received his diploma as "Diplom-Ingenieur" for machine engineering and vehicle technology at the Technical University of Aachen. He began and still is at the Institute for Traffic Safety of the TÜV Rheinland/Berlin Brandenburg Group in the Department of Safety Research and Development. Main activities at the beginning of his career were the development of advanced data acquisition systems to measure vehicle dynamics. Project leadership follows engineering support for the development of products in the active safety domain, mainly chassis, brake and suspension systems. In Germany, he is an active member in standardisation work groups (VDA and FAKRA committees).
Within European Projects in the DRIVE II Programme he participated in evaluation and system safety work groups. In the 4th Framework Telematics Application Programme, he is the project co-ordinator of the "Urban Drive Control" project, which investigates into the development of Advanced Vehicle Control Systems and communications technology for integration with Traffic Management Systems. |
