1998 AVG demo project Rijnwoude
The Netherlands is organising an international AVG demo project from 15 to 19 June 1998, which in the past has been organised by the Japan and the United States. This demonstration will be given on the N11 (national trunkroad under construction) near the South Holland municipality of Rijnwoude.

Background

The Netherlands is the third country organising an international AVG demo. Both in 1995 and 1996 Japan organised an international demo. Last year technical feasibility of AVG was shown to the world in San Diego, USA.

The emphasis in the Netherlands when demonstrating AVG developments will not only be on technological possibilities, but on the practical applications of existing possibilities as well.

is being organised by the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, in co-operation with TNO and the European Union.

Objectives

The objective of the international AVG demo project in Rijnwoude is twofold.

Firstly, the demo project is a good way to put Automated Vehicle Guidance on the agenda of all the parties involved. AVG will affect large groups of people in society. The project aims to create awareness amongst policy and decision makers in government and industry. It can be an impetus to the creation of a large base of public support and increased involvement.

Secondly, the AVG demo project can give a new impulse to international co-operation and co-ordination. AVG applications are being studied in the Japan, the United States and Europe. The demo project will display most of the latest developments.
