| Summary | The CHAUFFEUR Project was organized as part of EU's Fourth Framework for improvement in distribution efficiency, environmental improvement and safety. It is an electronically linked platooning project under the initiative of Daimler-Chrysler and other automakers and research institutes. The demo was held in ordinary traffic with one vehicle following the lead vehicle (manned) through "Tow-Bar" cruising. |

Cruising system electronically linking two large trucks, called ?Tow-Bar?was
shown for stop-and-go, acceleration/deceleration, lane changing and other demos
along with cruising at maximum speed of 80 km/h. There were cases of the vehicles
passing slower vehicles and changing lanes at construction areas, showing seemingly
smooth cruising in ordinary traffic environment.
